How is the challenge of making stakeholders feel welcome to your school (or place of work) connected to your school mission?
As a school leader I would communicate to the stakeholders all the opportunity’s they have to get involved with our school. There are school sports that need fans in the seats as well as volunteers helping out at games too. Rally around making the school a place of connection for all that are involved.
Current Sphere of Influence: What can you do in your present position to enhance welcoming these stakeholders?
Current Sphere of Influence: Commit to 5 things you are willing to do this semester that will make your school a more welcoming place:
- We try to involve the whole community as a whole to feel welcomed at our school. In our school mission statement we believe the responsibility for education is an active partnership among the schools, students, families, and all stakeholders of the community. The more we involve the stakeholders the more they take ownership of what we are trying to accomplish.
- After teaching Ag for seven years this year will be my first year teaching online courses at our high school. For the assessment I would communicate with parents I have come in contact with and asked them a series of questions. From this survey I discovered that many of the parents feel a loss of connection with the school since there child has been moved to online courses.

Current Sphere of Influence: What can you do in your present position to enhance welcoming these stakeholders?
- Right now I don’t have much contact with anyone but my students and their parents. What I can do is make them feel welcome by offering them a list of activity’s they can help out with and also enjoy. We have school dances, field trips, games and tours around our schools weekly. If I can find something they can take ownership of that’s one step in the right direction.
Current Sphere of Influence: Commit to 5 things you are willing to do this semester that will make your school a more welcoming place:
- “Walk around campus with my eyes up”
- Meet parents of other students that I don’t teach.
- Don’t lose the common touch with parents and students. Be approachable.
- Take ownership of my actions when it comes to welcoming others.
- Spend time getting to know parents and not just sidestep them.
