20time week 5
I am very glad I had the opportunity to do a 20time project. Doing the 20time project has forced me to stay with a project/hobby I have started. I am notorious in starting project/hobby and never finishing them. I bought my compound bow a couple weeks before class started and I never touched it until my first week of my 20time project. I did not achieve my goal of being accurate at 20 yards, but I feel really good on how much progress I made. I was able to learn and hold a bow correctly, I learned what the proper safety precautions were when shooting. What helped me out the most was getting private lessons from a trained professional at Bass Pro. My instructor was an older gentlemen, his name was Chris and he had been shooting all his life which made me feel like I was in good hands. He taught me a lot during our meetings, how to stand, hold and shoot my bow. When I first started shooting I thought it would be no problem achieving my goal because I was shooting at a close distance. However, I learned that 20 yards away is pretty far when it comes to shooting a bow for a beginner. According to my research I need to improve a few things. I need to first keep shooting and a lot of it, practice makes perfect. I am a novice so my body gets fatigued really fast. To combat this I need to at least shoot 50 shots a day to build muscle memory. Second I need to keep a “set shot routine”, a shot routine is something comfortable and familiar that you can easily repeat when shooting to help with your form and accuracy. Even though I know I should be approaching every shoot the same way I don’t and that’s why I am not as accurate as I would like to be. The last thing I need to work on is just having fun and not taking it to serious. If I take it to serious my body becomes tense and I begin to get sloppy with my shots. Even though I don’t reach my goal I had a blast trying too, this is not the end of my shooting and I am sure I will reach my goal soon.
